Dr Crowhurst received his medical degree from the University of Adelaide. He went on to complete his basic training and respiratory / sleep medicine training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, receiving his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2020. He was the chief thoracic registrar at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for two years. He subsequently undertook a fellowship in lung transplantation at The Alfred in Melbourne.

Dr Crowhurst is certified in the full range of bronchoscopic and pleural procedures by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is leading a number of research projects into lung allograft dysfunction at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Alfred. Dr Crowhurst is also a clinical lecturer at the University of Adelaide and a member of multiple professional bodies including the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Australasian Sleep Association and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. Dr Crowhurst consults in all respiratory and sleep medicine disorders.
